Over the past three years, our community school in Northern Uganda has witnessed a truly inspiring academic journey; one that reflects not only improving examination results, but also the power of consistent investment in rural education, dedicated teachers, resilient learners and supportive partners. As we review the Primary Leaving Examination (P.L.E) outcomes from 2023 to 2025, we are filled with pride and renewed commitment to our mission of providing quality education to children from underserved communities in northern Uganda.
A Clear Upward Academic Trend
Our P.L.E performance data tells a compelling story of growth and transformation:
2023 Results
15 candidates sat for the exams
0 First Grade
8 second grades
6 third grades
1 fourth grade
2024 Results
18 candidates sat for the exams
0 first grade
18 second grades
The 2024 results marked a significant leap forward. Achieving 100% second grades was a milestone that affirmed improvements in teaching quality, learner support and academic discipline. While we did not yet secure a First Grade, the uniform strength across all candidates showed that our interventions were working.
2025 Results
34 candidates sat for the exams
2 First Grades
32 Second Grades
The 2025 results represent our strongest performance yet. Doubling our candidate numbers while also securing 2 first grades for the first time is an extraordinary achievement. We did not only emerge as the best school in Otuke District but our performance from the 2024 results improved by 156%. Impressively, 1 of our learners also attained 7 aggregates making him the second-best pupil in Otuke District. While 32 of candidates scored got second grade scores, 6 of them attained 13 aggregates missing the first-grade mark by just one point.
What Changed? Investing in Rural Education
These improvements did not happen by chance. They are the result of deliberate and sustained efforts to uplift rural education standards. Below are the key factors that contributed to the improvement in our PLE results include:
Teacher Capacity Building: Continuous mentorship, training workshops and performance monitoring strengthened instructional quality.
Learning Materials: Increased access to textbooks, revision papers and reading resources improved learner preparedness.
Extended Study Support: Extra classes, holiday coaching and peer study groups created more opportunities for mastery.
Community Engagement: Parents and guardians became more involved in their children’s learning journeys.
Holistic Support for Vulnerable Children: School meals, counseling and basic scholastic materials reduced barriers for children from low-income households.
Supportive Partners: We thank Segal Family Foundation, Azurit Foundation and Stanbic Bank Uganda for supporting our community school with the resources that enabled this growth.
Education as a Tool for Equity
In Otuke and Agago districts, many families struggle with poverty, climate-related livelihood shocks and limited access to public services. For these children, education is not merely about grades; it is a pathway to dignity, confidence and future opportunity. Each improved result represents a child who now has a stronger chance of progressing to secondary school and beyond.
Our work focuses particularly on children who might otherwise be left behind: those from rural villages, female learners at risk of early dropout and pupils from households unable to afford private schooling. Academic success in this context is both an educational and social justice achievement.
Looking Ahead
While we celebrate this progress, we remain focused on continuous improvement. Our goals moving forward include:
Increasing the number of first grades
Expanding access to science and digital learning tools
Strengthening English and numeracy foundations in lower classes
Deepening partnerships with parents, local leaders and education stakeholders
The journey from predominantly third and fourth grades in 2023 to first and second grades in 2025 demonstrates what is possible when rural education receives intentional support. These results are not just statistics; they are stories of perseverance, community effort and the belief that every child, regardless of geographical location or income level, deserves quality education.
We are proud of our learners, grateful to our teachers and inspired by the communities of Otuke and Agago who continue to believe in the transformative power of education. The progress we see today is only the beginning of an even brighter future.
