The Okere Community Development Project (Okere City) was born from a deeply personal journey of healing, identity and purpose. What began as an effort to restore an ancestral home has grown into a bold, community-led model for rural transformation in Northern Uganda - anchored in the vision that opportunity, dignity and prosperity should be built within communities, not away from them.
In 2025, Okere City deepened its impact across education, healthcare, livelihoods, environmental sustainability and youth and women empowerment. Working collaboratively with communities and partners, the project continues to co-create solutions that respond directly to local priorities and realities.
Over the reporting period, Okere City:
Reached over 10,000 people across Otuke and surrounding districts.
Invested $300,000 in development projects.
Created 26 direct jobs and 55 indirect jobs.
Supported 3 small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Enabled the sale of 28 metric tons of shea butte.
Welcomed 450 local and international visitors.
Served 6,000 customers through local enterprises.
Built 4 strategic partnerships and collaborations.
Planted 10,000 trees, advancing environmental sustainability efforts.
This report offers a comprehensive overview of progress made; highlighting the strategies implemented, partnerships strengthened, results achieved and lessons learned. It also sets a forward-looking vision for Okere City to serve as a pioneering model for sustainable, smart and eco-friendly rural development in Africa by 2030.
